Kissing the Blarney Stone

Hi everyone!
Today the students went to Blarney Castle and kissed the stone. They had to bend backward over a ledge to reach a part of the castle's wall which is marked as the Blarney Stone. They also went to a festival and did the rides and saw some animals. There was a kid bounce and Jodi and the delegation manager bounced around - the kids all got a kick out of that!
I had asked about some of the food and got this reply: We had a really yummy dessert made of apples and custard. It's been meat, taters, and veggies every meal basically....
They've already packed so much in for the short amount of time they've been gone! We can all see why they'll be so exhausted when they return!! I'll have to remember next week to ask how the laundry is going? HA!HA!HA!

Reminder

Here's another photo - beautiful castle! Steve and I want to remind all the parents that it is perfectly normal not to hear from your kids for days at a time. The first time Isabelle went to Europe we got 2 phone calls in 3 weeks because she had no cell phone. We're hearing more from her now since she is a junior leader and communicating with us for the blog is part of her duties in that position. We are not talking everyday, but texting.....the phone situation is tough in Europe. Pay phones are scarce and cell coverage is not as widespread as the USA. Please feel free to post your comments or concerns and we can all support each other.

Phone Calls

Jodi asked me to pass this along:
We have been having issues finding pay phones, the one at our hotel is not working and we will be at Sunbury Farms until Tuesday so will not have access to a phone until Tuesday. I apologize for this but it is out of my control at this point. So if you have not received a call yet it is either because they have not had a pay phone or because they have chosen not to call yet. Cell phones cannot be used during the day but it is completely up to the delegates to make their calls every 5 or so days. Just wanted everyone to know about the pay phone situation so no one panics. Delegates are doing great and having a lovely time!

More Fun, Fun, Fun

Heard from our kids again today through texting and Logan actually called! He said he's having a great time and everyone is getting along really well! Everybody is pretty much over the jet lag and tomorrow they head for the dairy farm for a few days.
He mentioned that the students are split into color coded teams and each day they play some type of "game" and earn points! He was proud to say his team (blue) is in the lead today! A few other kids on the blue team: Monica, Seth, Philip, and Michael....there are more, he just couldn't remember them all. One day they played "Bring Me" - they had to find something and bring to one of the leaders....

Group Photo on the Emerald Isle

Just got this photo! They look like they're recuperating from jet lag pretty well! I cropped the photo, but thought I'd put the original in too!

Today's Happenings

The kids visited Ross Castle today, took a 14 mile boat and jaunty cart ride in Killarney National Park and then had lunch. It was very fun and all enjoyed! She mentioned on the boat ride there was a deaf student from another delegation - she said it was very interesting talking with him through his sign language "dude". Learning American Sign Language would be a good idea!

Isabelle says they finally got their count off to 17 seconds! Apparently, 16 seconds is the goal!

Goofy Group Photo on the Emerald Isle

Here's another one! Jodi must remember how I like to take goofy pictures!!!

Killarney National Park

Took a 14 mile tour of Killarney National Park on boat and then a jaunty cart...the view was breathtaking...hard to describe how amazing it is. The students loved it!

From Jodi

Spent the morning at the Cliffs of Moher and Aillwee Caves. The students really enjoyed the morning and were in great spirits leaving the caves. We are now on the bus for our 3 hour drive to Killarney. Jodi emailed this to our site....just wanted to pass it on....

Word from Daneille

She also said that they have been having a great time. She said that the flight was bumpy and it was hard to sleep. She is doing well and making lots of new friends. Sounds like the food has been good so far, we were worried, she is a picky eater. She dropped her camera and her and Jodi are going to try to fix it... so far so good!

The First Calls/Texts!!

Hi everyone!
First, let me apologize. It looks like I have forgotten to bring my phone tree with me to my mom's in Cincinnati! We'll be home Sunday afternoon! SORRY!

Okay, on to the fun stuff: heard from Isabelle and Logan both today. The kids visited Bunratty Castle and Park yesterday - everyone was VERY TIRED (her emphasis!). They also checked out the Moher Cliffs and some caves. It was pitch black in the caves at times today. They took a bus ride and everyone was so tired, they were sleeping on each other's shoulders, laps, etc. Isabelle said it was a pretty funny sight to see. Apparently, Jodi was the only one to be searched at the airport....she had too much stuff in her carry on!!!

No one is homesick from our delegation yet.....there is a total of 34 from both delegations (ours, Findlay and Michigan). Isabelle said everyone is getting along very well and having a wonderful time! She said Ireland is even greener than she had anticipated (our family is from Northern Ireland, so it's been a dream to visit there!).

All in all, everyone is in good spirits and doing well. Tired, tired, tired....but they will be for a few more days....

I'm sure we're all happy and relieved to know the kids are all safe and sound! Thanks to everyone on the phone tree! Excited to hear about their next couple of days!
